2021 Spring Smokies Sample

Might as well start with sunrise scenes. From Foothills Parkway. This is why you get up at 4:30 AM to get there.

And one of my favorite things. This one is probably a Southern Pygmy Clubtail, which I have never seen before.

Turkey doing his thing in Cades Cove.

I turned around from the last shot, and the shadows of the Rhododendrons made patterns on the rocks.

A small field of Dwarf Crested Iris.

White Trillium were still blooming on some hillsides.

Only a few dogwoods left blooming.

Lichens in the Smokies are amazing. This was a pile of wood.

And here comes the sun!

One of my favorite water places. Above Tremont.

Showy Orchis. Every year I try to get an image I like of these flowers. For some reason it is very difficult. This one comes close.

Fleabane with bee. Flowers need bugs.

Something I rarely see, an open Wild Ginger Flower. The flowers are on the ground and hard to see.

Every year, I check on this cantilever barn. It's doing fine.

I don't usually see many butterflies at these workshops but this year there were several. Tiger Swallowtail and Violets.

The snail and his shadow were appealing. Not something usually said about a snail.
