Cumberland Falls

From 2020 Fall Trip

  • 102920. The first stop on my trip is usually Cumberland Falls State Park in Kentucky. This is the view from the Lodge. Probably one of the reasons I stay there.
  • 103020. Next morning a trip to the falls. They have blocked off several of my favorite shooting spots for safety reasons probably, so I had to find new ones,
  • 103020. There had been been a lot of heavy rain from the remnants of a hurricane, and as I looked down, it looked as though someone had lost their boat ( actually two boats) . The red pail stood out.
  • 103020. Light pink was a sharp contrast to most of the other colors.
  • 103020. View across the Cumberland River.
  • 103020. View farther down the river. The people on the overlook give a size comparison.
  • 103020. Mini still life.
  • 103020. I loved all the contrasts in this shot of the bridge over the river.
  • 103020. This was a surprise! It is so late in the season. A type of Euonymous, but that's as far as I get.
  • 103120. On to the Smokies. This is why you get up hours before dawn. View from the Foothills Parkway
  • 103120. Turning around, the sun was lightening parts of the hills.
  • 103120. I was looking to catch the light hitting the trees on the hills above the road, but these photobombing bikers made the shot!
  • 103120. 1 1/2 hours after the first fog and mountain shot, it is still playing out in front of me.
  • and dissipating some more.
  • 103120. More of the same with a bright tree in the foreground.
  • 103120. In the afternoon, on the new section of Foothills Parkway. We had seen a few wedding parties being photographed at some of the overlooks, but this one was different! She climbed up the wall in heels and they stood looking like they were going to leap. No drop on the other side, but what the.................?
  • 103120. There was a patch of Goldenrod and Asters on the far side of the wall, which attracted late pollinators. This one was new to me. It is a Feather-legged Fly. Blow up the legs if you can.
  • 113020. Flower fly on an aster. ID for later.
  • 103120. This Moth Mullein surprised me since it is so late. It was by itself in a previously mowed area, so that may be why.
  • 110120. Elkmont the next morning. I like mini landscapes.
