Crook Street Wetlandsbirds

  • 03-18-18. A Bluebird doing an early check of nesting possibilities.
  • Trumpeter Swans come in occasionally, but haven't nested here so far.
  • This Kildeer has nested in this gravel area for several years. Last year, her nest and eggs were destroyed by vehicles so this year we proactively protected them.
  • A closer shot .
  • Spring Cress. Abundant most years in areas in the woods.
  • Isopyrum.
  • 6 Spotted Tiger Beetle.
  • Wild Geranium
  • One of several species of Violet.
  • A darker species.
  • Ragwort. Abundant on the floodplain.
  • Egrets, as well as Herons are common.
  • This is the usual view of a Black Saddlebags. They very rarely settle down, and prefer to be in constant motion. I am not very good at action shots anymore, so this was a gift.
  • An exuvia left when a Dragonfly emerged and flew away.
  • Carolina Saddlebags have a habit of lighting horizontally at about my eye level. A hard shot for me to get!
  • Mouse-ear Hawkweed. Not sure why it is called that.
  • Meadow Hawkweed
  • Ebony Jewelweed. One of my favorite species, and one which I never seem to capture completely. Its iridescence is magnificent.
  • Painted Skimmer.
  • Spatterdock appeared two or three years ago, and is becoming very prevalent in some of the wet areas.
