From Lecce

  • Chiesa Santo Croce is one of the elaborately Baroque churches in Lecce. The facade is under repair, so this curtain, with a full image of the facade, covers it.
  • An example of the Baroque interior of Basilica di Santa Croce
  • A close up of some of the interior decoration. in Santo Croce.
  • The symbol the the City of Lecce from the Chiesa di Sant'irene. This is actually meant to be a wolf under an Oak tree.
  • Roman theater excavated in Lecce.
  • How they hold up balconies in Lecce! Blow up the horses to see the facial expressions.
  • Alberobello is the heart of this type of architecture, called Trulli. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Classic Trulli are completely stone, originally without mortar.
  • Twilight in Alberobello.
  • Olive trees at the Masseria Brancati. A masseria was a fortified farm. Some have been in operation since before the Romans.
  • Olive trees live for millennia. This one is supposed to be over 1000 years old. Needs a little support.
  • I could probably have spent days doing olive wood abstracts. This tree has some eggs (don't know whose) in the hole.
  • Masseria Brancati has a museum of farming methods. This is an olive oil press from the 1800's. Turned by a donkey.
  • Locorotondo is one of Italy's "white" villages, brilliantly whitewashed.
  • Alley in Locorotondo with flowers and dog.
  • Outside of a very good restaurant in Locorotondo.
  • Polignano a Mare, a picturesque seaside town. I was very happy this was the off season!
  • Polignano a Mare
  • Otranto is an old harbor town , This cathedral was started in the 11th century and was coninuously rebuilt.
  • The floor in the cathedral is a mosaic, still in good condition, done in 1163. It is largely covered with pews, but it is amazing, with anomalies like the cat with two shoes.
