Frosolone

Church of the Assumption in one of Forsolone's piazzas. Built in the 1300s and destroyed in an earthquake in in 1456. This town is earthquake prone.

This was one of the shockers of my whole trip. I had referred to the area where my Dad's people were from as the West Virginia of Italy, but without even the coal mines. Here in the square of Frosolone is a plaque commemorating loss of lives in the coal mines. 20 men lost in the the great disaster in Monongah W VA in 1907 from this town alone!

Frosolone was renowned over Italy an beyond for cutting instruments. There are still artisans making knives by hand. This is in the museum.
