Liatris can transform a meadow into a blaze of purple in July

From 2017 Crook Street Highlights

  • Monarch peeking around a Liatris. or Blazing Star. Besides being a beautiful plant, Liatris is very attractive to many types of butterfly.

  • Purple Milkwort. An annual plant, It's clover sized blossoms are very complex but easily overlooked due to small size and low growing habit. It is one of my favorites.
  • An Obedient Plant just starting bloom. Found by a Bumblebee.
  • 08-05-17. A 4 Toothed Mason Wasp, Monobia quadridens, on Queen Anne's Lace. Can't find where the name 4 Toothed came from.
  • QA Lace Clump with Watercolor filter. Sometimes the young flowers are pink, turning to white. Having long taproots, this plant will be very prevalent in a dry year.
  • The end stage of Queen Anne's Lace, which to me is as intriguing as the flower in full bloom. Note the insect at the top and the Spider web around the bottom.
  • Great Blue Lobelia in the morning dew.
  • Sunflower with Hoverfly. Nice camouflage.
  • Late summer field. A feast for the eyes and the bees!
  • Thin Leaved Coneflowers, also known as Brown Eyed-Susans. A painted filter and texture applied to the image.
